4:12 a.m. Beside the flowing stream, all is quiet but faint calls of great-horned owls and brief announcements from awakening songbirds.
4:33 a.m. Before long, in the middle ground, American robins begin stirring with song. The dawn chorus enlivens as the morning brightens.
5:03 a.m. Water riffles as a creature wades by and climbs onto the grassy riverbank.
