2011-10-23 11:45, Townsend’s Solitaire (Myadestes townsendi), John Day River Basin near Sutton Mountain, Wheeler County, Oregon.
Fall migration brings Townsend's Solitaire to groves of western juniper where they will feed on the berries through the winter. I found these solitaires congregated where a narrow canyon openes to a lofted valley full of juniper trees.
This recording begins with single call notes from several birds, and then transitions to longer chatter and song. The background is fairly busy and may consist of several other species including American Robin.

Special thanks goes to the Oregon Natural Desert Association for enticing me to make the trip out there for another riparian restoration mission.
